God is one God: at any point in time, He has one will for my life.
To know Jesus Christ is to know God the Father, and God promises to guide us, so long as we are asking, seeking, knocking.
The main gift that we should ask for, the main gift we need, above all other things, is the Holy Spirit, to guide us, to indwell us, to bring us to know Jesus: Jesus assures us that if we ask the Father in heaven, He promises to give us the gift of the Holy Spirit.
And He will comfort, counsel, and guide us, into all truth, and into the will of God for our daily lives, day by day.
Jesus Christ, Who is come in the human flesh, and is risen from the dead, and since His Ascension in the first century is and always will be seated in heaven at the right hand of God the Father.
This is the God I am talking about.
For the only God is the God of Jesus Christ; note that I am not talking about any gods or ideas of God outside Jesus Christ who is described in the Bible, through Whom alone can human beings know God the Father, and be known by the same God.
This is the God of Jesus Christ, as revealed in the scriptures, which set the limits of such knowledge – in other words, no one who is not acting righteously according to the Biblical description of righteousness knows Jesus Christ: this God is the God of love, truth, righteousness, peace, forgiveness, rationality (by which the scriptures mean, a sound mind), goodness, and all comfort.
Outside of this God, the one true God, there is no comfort, no rationality, no truth, no peace, no righteousness, no goodness, no forgiveness, no self-giving sacrificial love.
A prayer.
God have mercy on us, and give us grace us to know You, through Your only Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in whom there is no darkness; He is God, Who loved the world so much that He even died on a cross for the sins of the world.
Father in heaven, pour out Your Holy Spirit upon us, shine Your light upon us, so that we might lay down everything that hinders us from following Jesus, and turn to You wholeheartedly and be saved to the uttermost,
Amen.
