A snake-oil salesman tells someone they have cancer. Then they say, “But I can cure you. Just take my expensive medicine…” And the snake-oil salesman gives them some paperwork; “Just sign here and here.” The paperwork is an indemnity agreement.
It turns out the expensive medicine is a poison that kills the customer.
I’m pretty sure the indemnity agreement would not protect the snake-oil salesman from prosecution for fraud and manslaughter.
At some point we will need to see formal justice, because if it happens in the streets our civilisation will collapse.
