Fact Check: Jesus' disciples obeyed the lawful authorities.
Actually, while Jesus was still with them they disobeyed an order given by the Chief Priests and Pharisees... Well, except for one of Jesus' disciples.
The New Testament shows us that there are limits to the instruction given by the apostle Paul in Romans 13 that says we should obey the lawful authorities. When the lawful authorities command us to do something evil it is very clear that Jesus wants us to disobey them.
This was the command issued by the lawful authorities:
But the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that anyone who found out where Jesus was should report it so that they might arrest him. John 11:57
This command was issued by the Chief Priests, who were the lawful leaders of the Jewish people (see Acts 23).
All the disciples disobeyed this instruction, with Jesus’ complete approval, for He was with them at the time.
Oh, except for one disciple.
Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Jesus to them. They were delighted to hear this and promised to give him money. So he watched for an opportunity to hand him over. Mark 14:10-11
