Fact check: Trump did not "fall" at the rally: he ducked. Shooter is dead.
CNN headline misinformation; they 'updated' it but did not annotate the correction.
Trump shot at Pennsylvania rally 13th July
At 4:27pm Pacific Time 13th July a shooter shot at President Trump at a rally on the 13th of July in Butler, Pennsylvania; Trump is fine, he survived the assassination attempt, preliminary reports indicate a rally attendee was killed and the shooter is dead. Trump’s right ear was grazed and he left the stage with blood on his face.
CNN was initially reporting that Trump “fell” at the rally: this is not correct, he ducked, as the video clearly shows; they have now corrected their headlines (https://www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/election-biden-trump-07-13-24#h_872751b6f0b528130bbad5b797e424b1 note it says ‘this post updated’ ) and the headline that said he fell has apparently been wiped from CNN. But here it is on the wayback machine archive: https://web.archive.org/web/20240713222632/https://www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/election-biden-trump-07-13-24
The correction on the latest version as of this posting is not annotated properly:
The shooter was on a nearby rooftop.
According to althouse.blogspot.com a man on TV said that he saw the shooter on the rooftop and struggled to get the Secret Service to do something about it. He questioned why the nearby rooftops were not secure.
Sympathetic statements from politicians, some of whom probably wish the shooter succeeded:
Biden’s statement: “I have been briefed on the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania. I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information. Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety. There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it.”
Vice President Kamala Harris’ statement: “Doug and I are relieved that he is not seriously injured. We are praying for him, his family, and all those who have been injured and impacted by this senseless shooting. ... We must all condemn this abhorrent act and do our part to ensure that it does not lead to more violence.”
Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell’s statement: “Tonight, all Americans are grateful that President Trump appears to be fine after a despicable attack on a peaceful rally. Violence has no place in our politics.”
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s statement: “We are shocked by the scenes at President Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania. We condemn all forms of political violence in the strongest terms and we send our best wishes to President Trump and his family at this time.”
Barak Obama’s statement: “There is absolutely no place for political violence in our democracy. Although we don’t yet know exactly what happened, we should all be relieved that former President Trump wasn’t seriously hurt, and use this moment to recommit ourselves to civility and respect in our politics. Michelle and I are wishing him a quick recovery.”
