False Positives in Covid testing.
The short video from Norman Fenton below is very informative.
Most people don’t understand what “false positives” in diagnostic testing really mean.
He says the most important piece of information when looking at the possibility of false positives is the rate of infection in the population. For instance, if 5% of tests results are false positives, and the infection rate is only 1 in 1000, it actually means that 95% of the people who test positive do not have the virus.
I have a question about Covid life down under. Yesterday, I sat down with my wife and watched a reality TV show called ”Love on the Spectrum - Australia”. It’s about those with autism figuring out intimate love. I’m not recommending it. Anyhow..... I may be making assumptions, but it appeared to me from this particular episode... and I wish I made mental note of season and episode, that those in Sydney were able to walk around in public without masks in November of 2020. I say this because the autistic couple is talking about Trump’s election loss in public, restaurants open, without masks. Is this the way it was?
I always assumed lockdowns were more severe in Australia than here in the US. I know I was working from home at this point... I was in month 8 of “two weeks to slow the spread”. Just curious.
