So I was using Finale (music notation software) and it started suddenly playing the associated audio file about a tone high. I’ve experienced this type of problem before – it’s usually a sampling error, something that should be at 44.1 kHz playing at 48 kHz, or vice versa. After fruitlessly checking the preferences etc, I finally found that there were two places that had the wrong sampling rate, the external usb speaker in the Audio midi setup, and the external usb speaker setting in system settings.
Lo and behold if the iPhone isn’t showing up as an extra microphone there in both settings as well. Now everything was working before this latest update, but I am pretty sure it’s the iPhone, which has a different sampling rate entirely, that stuffed it all up. The continuity mic kept showing up over the past few days and it’s pretty annoying as well so…
Well, to cut a long story short, I found out how to turn off the continuity microphone. For all of you out there perturbed by this new intrusive annoying dysfunctional function, here is how you do it:
First go to Settings.
Then go to General
Then on to Airplay and Handoff
Then turn off Continuity Camera - believe it or not the Continuity Microphone is one with the Continuity Camera.
You might want to turn off Handoff while you’re there, if you’re as sick as I am of intrusive suggestions.
Thanks for this. iPhone OS seems to have a number of very annoying features from my perspective. I’ve followed your directions regarding the microphone. Thanks again.
