Power has been down in Mundaring and Gidgegannup and surrounding suburbs in Western Australia because of a huge thunder-and-hail-storm yesterday, and it still hasn’t been restored after a day and a half in many homes.
Western Power says that the reason homes are still without power is, that they must prioritise essential services and high voltage lines. 100 power poles were down, and 33,000 homes were without power. Today 20,000 homes are still without power, and many are expected to be without power through the night tonight.
One wonders if their staffing levels are still insufficient, because of vaccination requirements in Western Australia the first six months of 2022? Most of the people I know who were fired from their jobs or left them because of vaccination requirements found other jobs or stopped working entirely, if they were able to, and did not return to the jobs they had to leave.
UPDATE Friday 19th January
Power is still out on the fourth day of outages, Friday 19th January, in large swathes of Western Australia, from Mundaring and Gidgegannup close to the coastal city of Perth, to Kalgoorlie in the outback, thousands of people are without power and without fuel. People in Kalgoorlie had to drive to Kambalda, 80 kilometres away to get fuel, in the blazing heat of over 40 degrees, only to end up in a line of hundreds of cars waiting to buy fuel. They are unable to charge their phones. Some businesses have lost thousands of dollars.
I don't think many people would return to jobs where they were treated so ungratefully
