TPG is an Australian telecommunications provider.
A pensioner I know has no idea how to use internet or data on his mobile phone. Obviously he uses no data. He has an arrangement with TPG for direct withdrawals from his bank account and they have been taking $20 a day, for ‘automatic topups.’ In the last two or three weeks they have taken over $400.
After trying to resolve the situation with TPG he is reporting it to the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (TIO).
But if you happen to be with TPG you should audit your internet data usage on your phone: it appears quite possible that they are stealing from you and not providing the data they say they are providing.
UPDATE: The TIO happened to mention that this is not the first time they have dealt with this problem - he would not say which provider it was with - but clearly it’s a common problem.
Not with TPG but good to know, thanks!
