Fact checking an old claim: Yes McGowan did say we should have an Australian Cabinet meeting in China.
Premier of Western Australia at the time, Mark McGowan, said on Wednesday April 19th 2023, “The Prime Minister, hopefully, will come to China sometime in the next six months and meet with President Xi Jinping. One of the things he could do is invite all the Premiers and Chief Ministers to come with him.” This comment was made just before the National Cabinet meeting, something Scott Morrison instituted at the start of Covid, and McGowan was essentially suggesting that Australia hold its National Cabinet meeting in China.
It is quite appalling that McGowan could suggest this, but it possibly demonstrates the power and influence China is able to exert over the institutions of the West at the moment.
This fact check was sparked by a comment on my substack about the visit to WA of Aseem Malhotra which included this cartoon a while ago:

Ask Aseem about no viruses and he kind of clams up, like he did in Dunedin (via video because of winds).
Re McGowan, I guess the commissions are good.
